Q&A with Jared Tebo
Tebo: "I really want some redemption from Thailand"
Q: Jared you’ve had a mega start to 2011, a Double at the Nitro Challenge with two very different style victories, the titanic battle for the truggy win and the composed champion’s drive in buggy, how are you feeling as you look ahead to races like the Silver State, Neo11 and your ROAR Nationals title defence ?
Jared Tebo: Yeah The Dirt Nitro Challenge went really good. It was sooooo much fun having my Dad back at the track for that race. It doesn't change my look at the rest of the year. It was great to win and gain some confidence, but I always go to win. I feel really good and just can't wait for the next race.
Q: Over the close season day by day you announced your intentions, staying with Kyosho, Orion, AKA, KO but switching fuels from Byron to the unknown Maxima brand, happy so far ?
JT: Switching to Maxima has been great. I feel really blessed to have been given this opportunity. They were so happy after the debut race. It couldn't have been better for them. The product is actually extremely good as well. Testing can be tricky, but that first time you race with something new is the true test.
Q: One aspect which seems to have changed for you in 2011 is fuel mileage, at races in 2010 you were coming in at the normal 8~9 minute mark with the others but at the Nitro Challenge you seemed able to go significantly longer per tank, was this only the case at the Nitro Pit or is it something we may continue to see in 2011?

JT: HAHA....Yeah I am not known for getting great mileage. I never have....back on the TTR days I had to pit in 7 minute qualifiers. I pull my throttle very slow and smooth, which you would think would be great for that, but it is too slow. The engine can't clean out properly....in midrange I have always struggled with my engines being rich. I have tried everything. Just for example Cavalieri pulls real quick. I run my engine 1 turn leaner on the bottom end and my midrange would still be rich. Orion has made different needles, carbs, everything. When I started my engine with the Maxima fuel, I could feel a difference. The unique ingredients have totally cured my problem I have had for 11 years. As for just being a fluke thing at The Dirt....I hope that isn't the case. We will just have to wait and see.

Q: What are your main goals for 2011 – being an interim year there are no 8th Worlds, perhaps more focus on 10th scale ?
JT: Main goals are always to just leave the race knowing I did all I could do. I would love to keep my 1/8 ROAR Nats titles. I will do all I can to keep those. Also 1/10 worlds are this year and I really want some redemption from Thailand. I will be very determined to be ready for the Worlds in both classes.
Q: There’s a buzz surrounding Jared Tebo Products, no doubt helped by your very colourful coordination of shirts & outfits over the past few months, how is that project coming along ?
JT: Yeah I get a lot of comments on all my different colors. I like it...I always hated wearing the same shirt everyday. Well I have plans, but just trying to get everything together. Megan (Jared's wife) is actually going to be staying home now and JTP is her new project. We feel it can be something great for us, but I just don't have enough time and patience to get it from paper to reality. Our realistic goal is to be up and running January 2012.
Q: You’re making a return to the Neo Race at Harper Adams once again, you won the first neo in ’05 and then again in ’09, this time you’ll be up against Adam Drake – multiple winner at Harper Adams and generally feared at the track, can you make it your 3rd Neo win ?

JT: I'm really excited to be going back. I love that style of track and the loose conditions. I can't wait. I think that my car will be great, I just need to drive good. I would love to win again at Neo. I just hope I can go a qualifier without stopping for fuel! It will be awesome I'm sure.
Q: Tell us about the latest trend that’s developing amongst a few Pro RC drivers – hobby fishing ?!
JT: Well my fishing career started last summer. I decided to ride Mx too early after surgery and totally wrecked my foot. I was not able to really do anything. My friend fished and I got hooked! Haha :) It is awesome though, pretty relaxing, and nice way to get a good tan. I had my first day back last week. I still had it! Hooked 3 nice bass. I don't eat fish though....I'm all about catch and release. Received my 2010 IFMAR 1/8 Buggy Worlds DVD!!
I received today in the mail my 2-Disc 2010 IFMAR 1/8 Buggy Worlds DVD from LiveRC!! I'll let you guys know how good it is as soon as I get some free time to watch it :-)
Recebi hoje pelo correio o meu DVD Duplo do Mundial de Buggy 1/8 da IFMAR, feito pela LiveRC. Eu conto pra vocês o quanto ele é bom, assim que eu arrumar um tempo livre para assisti-lo :-) Aguardem...

Orion's Special Edition WC & TQ Engines
Team Orion is releasing two special edition engines celebrating their Worlds result. There will be a limited quantity (~500) of engines, with specific designs on the cooling head - one for Cody King's WC win and one for Jared Tebo TQ'ing, all engines will have a special serial number and come packaged with an official team shirt, also included is the EFRA 2058 pipe and turbo glowplug.
Team Orion irá lançar dois motores comemorativos do mundial. Eles serão limitados a 500 unidades e virão com cabeçotes especiais, um comemorando o campeonato mundial de Cody King e outro comemorando o TQ (Melhor Classificação) de Jared Tebo. Ambos os motores virão com uma camiseta oficial do Team Orion e uma pipa EFRE 2058, além de uma vela Turbo.

Who Also Won The IFMAR Worlds w/ Cody King ?
When Cody King finished first at the IFMAR Off-Road Worlds @ Pattaya this year, he was not the only one to win the world title. Cody also made these following guys, World Champions:
- Yuchi Kanai - The father of the Kyosho Inferno MP9 Buggy.
- Mark Pavidis - The owner of AKA Tires.
- Adrien Bertin - The man behind Team Orion Engines.

Quando Cody King cruzou a linha de chegada em primeiro lugar no Mundial de Off-Road da IFMAR em Pattaya em novembro passado, ele não foi o único a ganhar um título mundial. Ele também tornou campeão Mundial as seguintes pessoas:

Kyosho Race Report
The 2010 IFMAR 1/8 Scale Nitro Off-Road World Championships were held November 7th – 14th at the RC Power Boat track in Pattaya, Thailand. Team Kyosho from the USA was represented by Jared Tebo, Joe Pillars, Cody King, Paul King, Mark Pavidis, Keevin Sharp, Tyler Vik, and Leo Vik.
We all left California on Friday, November 5th to start our long journey over to Thailand. Our first flight left LAX at 1:00am and 14 ½ hours later we landed in Hong Kong for our 1 ½ hour layover. Then our next flight from Hong Kong to Bangkok was 2 ½ hours. Due to the time change, we would land in Bangkok on November 6th. From Bangkok Airport we took a shuttle 1 ½ hours to our hotel in Pattaya. When we got to our hotel we first checked in, then went to go eat lunch. After lunch we went and did a little exploring in the city.
November 7th the track opened for race registration and car inspection that all needed to be done before the first practice on the following day.
November 8th would consist of 2 10-minute practice runs for each driver.
November 9th had each driver run 2 10-minute timed practice runs where there 3 fastest consecutive laps would be used to seed them into their heats for qualifying throughout the event.
November 10th would be the first day of qualifying. 2 10-minute rounds of qualifying would be ran. Kyosho’s Cody King would go on to qualify 2nd overall in round #1 with his Kyosho Teammate Jared Tebo qualifying 7th overall. In round #2 it was Jared Tebo who would record a 3rd overall with Cody suffering a DNF while on a very fast run.
November 11th was the second day of qualifying. In round #3 Jared Tebo would finish 3rd overall for the round with Cody King bouncing back nicely with a 6th overall. In round #4 Jared Tebo would lay down a perfect run to take the TQ for the round with Cody King finishing 4th overall.
November 12th would be the last day of qualifying. Jared Tebo picked up where he left off yesterday and went on to TQ round #5. By TQ’ing this round Jared Tebo locked up the overall TQ! In round #6 of qualifying Tebo didn’t hold anything back and would once again TQ the round. This gave Tebo 3 TQ’s and a 3rd overall for his qualifying points. Kyosho’s 2006 World Champion Mark Pavidis had a great run to qualify 7th overall and Kyosho France driver Jerome Aigoin would qualify 10th overall for the round.
November 13th would be a well deserved day off for the top 48 drivers. The lower mains up through the 1/16 finals would be ran.
November 14th was the final day for the IFMAR World Championships. This would be the day all the races have been waiting for and see who would be the new 1/8 Scale World Champion. After the bump-ups from the 1/8 and ¼ finals were complete, the Semi’s were to follow.
The first Semi would be the even qualified drivers. This was a very stacked heat including defending World Champion Atsushi Hara and previous Worlds TQ Mike Truhe. Kyosho’s Cody King would put in a very strong run and finish 2nd overall in his Semi and would transfer into the A-Main starting 2nd overall. The second Semi would be the odd qualifying drivers with Kyosho’s Jared Tebo who TQ’ed the event. Tebo went on to win his Semi and would transfer into the 60-minute A-Main starting in the 3rd position.
At the start of the 60-minute A-Main event every seat was taken up and only standing room was available for all the fans to watch. As the tone went off the field quickly raced up the straight and it was on. After a few laps were completed it was Hara, King, Maifield, and Tebo all seperating themselves from the pack. After the first round of pit stops the top 4 were still going at it for the lead. At the 30-minute mark of the main it was now Cody King leading with Hara in 2nd, and Tebo in 3rd.
A few laps later Tebo would hit a rock with his flywheel and caused his car to stop. This left it a two car race for the win. As King and Hara came in for their last pit stop they were only a few seconds apart. Hara followed behind King for many laps and finally made his move.
King responded only a few corners later to pass Hara right back for the lead. With only 4 minutes to go in the race, Hara made a mistake over the big back double jump and would allow King to stretch out his lead. With 1 lap to go Cody had about a 4 second lead on Hara. The IFMAR World Championship would come down to the last lap!
Cody stayed calm and hit his marks not making any mistakes while Hara was on the gas trying to catch up. When the checkered flag waived, it was Kyosho’s Cody King crossing the finish line first by only a few seconds ahead of Atsushi Hara. Hara would have to settle for 2nd. Kyosho’s Jared Tebo would come back to finish 3rd overall landing the only 2 Team Orion powered Kyosho MP9 TKI2’s on the podium!
